Health starts at home

Being a mother naturally concerned about the health of her family, I have been implementing small changes to my daily life that have culminated into a quest for optimal health.  Thankfully, I was raised by a health conscious mother who instilled a passion in me for cooking and gardening as well as a taste for healthy, homegrown, organic food.  I have discovered that it's very easy to make healthy choices when you are armed with knowledge and a passion for living your best life possible.

Not long ago after my last baby was born, I started experiencing some alarming changes in the way my body felt. The joints in my fingers, wrists and elbows were starting to swell and ache horribly. I was genuinely concerned that I might be having symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. My grip became very weak and I struggled with an overall feeling of fatigue. I was tested for Lupus, RA and Lyme disease and all results were negative.  I decided then that I would take matters into my own hands and take every "natural" measure to improve not only my health but the health of my family, which was in jeopardy as well.  My 11 year old son was "diagnosed" ADD/ADHD the prior year via a very short questionnaire given by his Doctor at the time.  The diagnosis led to a prescription for Adderall.  A very potent narcotic drug with extremely serious side effects.  It never "sat right" with me giving him this drug, which I could see having a profound effect on every aspect of his life.  His stomach always hurt so he wouldn't eat.  He was dizzy. He had nightmares and sleepwalking episodes. He became sad and depressed. There was a time when I had to leave the house for a little bit and I made him go with me because I was afraid that while I was gone he might hurt himself. My intuition was screaming at me to stop. I suspected that his brain chemistry was actually changing and that this drug was permantly damaging the boy that God made. A boy perfect in his Creator's eyes. A boy with alot of energy and spunk. A boy who would harness all of that energy someday and do something great with it.  I woke up one day after reading a book that changed my life. The book is called Natural Cures That They Don't Want You to Know About by Kevin Trudeau. A book I will talk about later. I immediately threw away his medication. I was on a quest to heal and cure my son naturally. The way God intended. He gave us everything in nature that we need to live long, happy, healthy lives. With proper nutrition, devoid of chemicals, additives, GMO's, hormones and steroids, I can rest assured that I am doing everything possible to insure him the best start in life. I realized it's never too late.

About six months ago was when I made this life-changing decision. I can say now that I have never felt better in my life.  I started by switching to all organic dairy. I believe this is the most important step. If you do only one thing. Do this! Conventional dairy cows are raised in extremely inhumane condions. They are fed a diet that is totally unnatural.  They're pumped full of hormones, steroids and antibiotics. All of this is concentrated in their milk. All conventional dairy is extremely poisonous. I only buy organic milk, butter, cheese etc.  I then switched to all organic, free-range beef, chicken and eggs. About 90% of the produce I buy is organic. It is amazing the taste of organic fruits and vegetables compared to those grown conventionally. The great thing is America is slowly catching on. There is a huge variety of organic foods available at your local grocery store.  Prices are also coming down as demand for these items increase. Yes, I spend more money at the grocery store now, but I consider every bite that goes into my family's mouths.

I am so happy that my awareness has reached a whole new level.  My symptoms have completely subsided. My son is healthy and happy. It is my desire to share all of this with you because knowledge is power and I genuinely care about you and want to share my journey with you. It has only just begun. Who knows where it will take me, but I feel I am on a path that God has laid out before me. I give Him all the praise. He answered my prayers when I was desperate for answers to our health problems. He put people in my life that are healthy influences and my hope is that I can be that for you!

  1. Inspiring! I too have gone organic with dairy, starting on meat and some produce. Thank you for the encouragement. I was going to bake cookies today but, after reading this, I will go eat my yogurt instead.

  2. Thanks Amy. It's important to be conscious in all of our decisions, and the more we know about our health the more responsibilty we have to make those good choices. Thank you for doing your part by sharing what you know. You've re-convicted me to spend the extra two dollars a gallon EVERY time, not just when we have extra, and not subject my baby to those unnatural substances. Keep it coming!
